Dryhead Agate
Found in southern Montana between the Big Horn and Pryor Mountain ranges and just to the west of the Big Horn River. Agate has the same chemical composition as quartz but instead of forming whole crystals, it has a microcrystalline structure. To be a true “agate,” the stone must exhibit a pattern or banding, otherwise it is considered chalcedony. Believed to come from the Late Cretaceous Period, about 65-90 million years ago, this variety of agate unique to Mexico is known for its reds, whites, and yellows. Metaphysically, agate helps with emotional, physical and intellectual balance. |
