Fordite

Aka Detroit agate, Motor City agate, paint rock, or paint slag, fordite is a lapidarist term for polished pieces of finely layered paint masses from automobile factories. Layers of enamel paint slag piled up on the tracks and skids on which cars were painted with acrylic lacquer. The masses of automotive paint accumulated and were baked on over years, hardening sufficiently to be cut and polished into cabochons for jewelry.
