Pietersite is a chalcedony with embedded fibers of amphibole minerals, which give it a variety of colors including blue-grey, rusty red, clear, gold and brown. The fibers cause a chatoyancy similar to that seen in tiger eye, but in swirls rather than straight lines. Pietersite was discovered by Sid Pieters in 1962 in Namibia, and is also found in China. Also known as Tempest Stone, pietersite is a high-energy stone said to enhance focus, provide protection from the elements and encourage calmness.
