Coral is the hard mineralized skeleton of tiny marine animals, composed primarily of calcium carbonate. Red coral from the Mediterranean has been prized as a gemstone for millennia. Now endangered due to overharvesting, nearly all our red coral is neutral-colored coral that has been dyed red, although we also carry some natural red coral that has been legally and sustainably harvested. Fossil coral refers to prehistoric coral fossilized through replacement with agate, often leaving flower-like patterns in the stone. Fine fossil coral is found in Florida and Indonesia. Metaphysically, coral helps with emotional healing.
