Selenite
From the Greek selene, meaning “the moon”, selenite is a form of gypsum, a calcium sulfate hydrate used in making mortar and plaster. Popular forms of selenite include wands, clusters of twinned crystals known as “fishtail” selenite, and beautifully clear prismatic crystals. Masses of fibrous parallel crystals displaying a silky sheen, known as “satin spar,” are often cut and polished into decorative shapes. Radiating aggregates of bladed crystals are sold as “desert roses.” Selenite opens the third eye (6th) and crown (7th) chakras, accessing higher realms of consciousness. |
