These oval and round star sapphire cabochons are set into simple sterling silver dangle earrings. The star effect is a special optical phenomenon called asterism, caused by tiny inclusions of rutile within the sapphire crystal that form a “star” of reflected light. Each stone is guaranteed to exhibit asterism, but it is difficult to get them all to appear in one photo.
