Sugilite

Sugilite is a silicate hydrate that was first recognized as a mineral and named after its co-discoverer Ken-ici Sugi in 1976. While this mineral generally forms as massive or granular, crystals less than 2 cm in size can be found. The pink to purple coloration of sugilite is caused by the presence of manganese, but the actual shades of pink and purple depend on trace amounts of aluminum and iron, respectively. Localities include Japan, South Africa, Canada, and Italy. Metaphysically, sugilite represents spiritual love and wisdom.
