Turquoise
Alternate December Birthstone A hydrous copper aluminum phosphate, turquoise was one of the first minerals to be valued as a gem. Turquoise is French for “Turkish,” because the ancient trade route from Iran, where the finest turquoise is still found today, went through Turkey. 7000-year-old turquoise beads have been found in Iraq. The Egyptians mined it in the Sinai in 3200 BCE. Native Americans have mined and worked turquoise for about 1000 years. A stone of wholeness and well-being, turquoise stimulates and harmonizes the throat (5th) chakra, empowering the shy to speak their truth and share wisdom.

Quartz Crystal
The colorless, transparent variety of quartz. It is composed of silicon dioxide, the most common mineral in Earth’s crust after ice and feldspar. The name “rock crystal” emerged in the Middle Ages to differentiate it from colorless glass. The Greeks called water-color crystals krystalos, hence the name “crystal.” The name quartz comes from Old German, but its origins are unknown. Metaphysically, quartz is used for power, communication, and cleansing. Found worldwide, fine specimens of quartz can be found in Arkansas, Brazil, and Madagascar.
