Glacial Float Copper
Thousands of years ago during the last Ice Age, glaciers scoured the Lake Superior region, picking up exposed copper nodules, constantly tumbling them, and finally re-depositing them hundreds of miles away. Specimens are found all over the upper Midwestern U.S. Most of our Float Copper is found on the Keweenaw peninsula of Michigan. Natural oxidation of the copper occurred over the years, giving the copper nuggets a distinctive green patina. Specimens vary from pea size to slabs weighing thousands of pounds. |
